Aachen DC Grid Summit 2018: Interdisciplinary Knowledge Exchange at Conference on DC Technologies
The Flexible Electricity Networks (FEN) Research Campus held its first conference on DC technologies on April 19th and 20th 2018 entitled "Where the International DC Community Meets". More than 100 international participants from science and industry attended the Aachen DC Grid Summit (ADCGS) to discuss the latest trends and the future of energy supply.
Well-balanced Power Grid: Mobility2Grid Launches Bidirectional Charging Station for Electric Buses
Germany's cities are promoting the changeover of their commercial transport system to emission-free vehicles. However, the transformation into electromobility also requires new charging infrastructures. By launching a bidirectional fast charging station (150 kW) on April 12th 2018, the Mobility2Grid Research Campus started a pilot project on the EUREF site in Berlin-Schönefeld, which could soon be put into real life.
Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek visits the ARENA2036 Research Campus at Hannover Messe 2018
“What can the working world of the future look like? And how can humans and robots work together in the future?” Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek discussed these questions with representatives from ARENA2036 Research Campus (Stuttgart) at the stand of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research at the Hannover Messe on April 23rd, 2018.
Groundbreaking ceremony for first MVDC grid in Aachen
FEN Research Campus will implement a local medium-voltage (MV) grid which is exclusively based on direct current (DC). This underground demonstration grid will operate as a private grid within the infrastructure of RWTH Aachen University. As part of a groundbreaking ceremony on March 19, 2018 the official beginning of the construction works was initiated.
„Tomorrow“ – ARENA2036 Research Campus provides an outlook on mobility and production of the future
800 guests from politics, science and industry participated in the opening of the research factory ARENA2036. In the new building, the partners of the research campus develop visions and solutions for the research areas of production and work as well as mobility of the future in the context of digitisation. State Secretary Dr. Georg Schütte highlighted the impact of an own research campus building for cooperation between business and science.
Collaboration of the research campuses InfectoGnostics (Jena) and M²OLIE (Mannheim)
InfectoGnostics (Jena) and M²OLIE (Mannheim) are seeking collaborations across research campuses. At the beginning of February 2018, the two research campuses discussed the possibility of joint scientific cooperations in a workshop; for example, the combination of different photonic methods in surgical diagnostics or the automation of tests for the determination of antibiotic resistance were discussed.
On site, ARENA2036 presented an experimental set-up of the research area ForschFab consisting of a mobile, collaborative robot and an autonomous guided vehicle (AGV) for material transport. Additionally, the Australian Chief Scientist gathered information about the work of the research campus.
Mobility2Grid Research Campus- Symposium 2017 "Acceptance and Participation - Requirements for the transformation of the energy and transport system"
On May 19, 2017, the second Mobility2Grid Symposium took place at the EUREF site in Berlin-Schöneberg. Lecturers from academia and industry presented various aspects of the topic "Acceptance and Participation as requirements for the transformation of the energy and transport system".
