Monitoring Treatment with Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The STIMULATE Research Campus aims to develop patient-friendly methods to treat liver tumours. The partners in the research campus are pooling all their expertise and ideas to explore new imaging methods, companion diagnostics and interventional instruments.

In addition to accurate planning, the targeted handling of instruments and seamless monitoring of treatment using a magnetic resonance imaging system (MRI) are central determinants for the success of the treatment. Only a perfect combination of all aspects will result in the complete destruction of the tumour cells using minimally invasive, thermal ablation techniques.

To mention one example, physicists, engineers and physicians at the STIMULATE Research Campus are working hand in hand to develop a special tracking system that determines the position of the ablation needle within the patient allowing to control the MRI.
